About the Exhibition:
‘SuperMom Unveiled’ exhibition is an art show featuring women artists from different generations and multi-cultural backgrounds, whose common theme is the unveiling of realities about Motherhood.
These artists are inviting the audience to look into their personal experiences and interpretations of Motherhood.
This is not typical “mother art”, like a photo of a beautiful woman breast feeding her baby or like the medias projections on T.V., of a mom sweeping the floor with the new-fangled broom, happily ever after. Weight, hairstyle and calmness make her the “perfect” mother.
These art works unveil the 'SuperMom' myth in our culture today and stand in contrast to the hyped stereotypes that continueto pressure mothers to pursue unrealistic measures when they become moms.
The exhibition is uniquely truthful and visually stimulating. These revealing art works are not the sort of thing usually seen in the public arena.
The women artists are providing a healing experience for many women going through real-life, tough experiences, like postpartum depression, raising children alone, teen mom experiences, surviving poverty and more. The exhibit develops a bond amongst all women and conveys that we are not alone in our human experience, which makes the situation of mothering more tolerable. As social commentary, it is also an act of intervention in response to the media-fed images we all consume, and measure ourselves against.
The artworks come in all media, including sculptures, documentary films, photos, paintings and comic art.
